Latest Social Security Dental Benefits: Fillings, Extractions, Scaling and Wisdom Tooth Surgery
Dental benefits are an important benefit for insured persons under Sections 33 and 39. The Social Security Office has significantly expanded dental benefits, effective May 1, 2026.
The changes provide more treatment options, from fillings, scaling, extractions and wisdom tooth surgery to dentures and dental implants for eligible persons.
Benefits differ by type of healthcare facility, especially between public facilities and private facilities that have an agreement with the Social Security Office. Insured persons should check the details before treatment.
Who Is Covered by Social Security Dental Benefits?
Dental benefits cover insured persons under Sections 33 and 39 who meet the Social Security Office criteria.
The insured person must have paid contributions for at least 3 months within the 15 months before the treatment date.
Persons whose insured status has ended may continue to use dental benefits for up to 6 months, subject to the applicable criteria.
Unlimited Free Dental Treatment: Where Can It Be Used?
From May 1, 2026, coverage was expanded for treatment at public healthcare facilities that have an agreement with the Social Security Office.
- Fillings
- Scaling
- Tooth extraction
- Wisdom tooth surgery
- Root planing
- Bone trimming to prepare the mouth for dentures
Treatment can be provided according to medical standards and necessity without a limit on the number of visits and without payment for services covered by the benefit.
Special clinics may charge a medical service fee separately. Therefore, “unlimited free dental treatment” does not mean every dental procedure is free at every clinic or hospital.
How to Use Dental Benefits at Private Facilities
For private facilities or clinics that have an agreement with the Social Security Office, basic dental services remain covered up to 900 baht per year.
- Fillings
- Scaling
- Tooth extraction
If the total cost exceeds 900 baht, the insured person must pay the difference. Ask the facility about additional costs before treatment.
Social Security Wisdom Tooth Benefit
Private facilities with an agreement may provide wisdom tooth surgery at the specified rate, approximately 1,500–2,500 baht per tooth, depending on complexity.
At public facilities with an agreement, wisdom tooth surgery is covered according to medical standards and necessity without a visit limit, subject to benefit conditions. The dentist determines medical necessity.
Social Security Denture Benefit
Denture coverage is approximately 1,500–6,000 baht, depending on the type and characteristics of the denture. There is also a 900 baht repair benefit per visit.
Patients should have their oral condition assessed by a dentist before using the benefit.
Does Social Security Cover Dental Implants?
Coverage has been expanded for dental implants supporting full-mouth dentures. This does not mean every person requesting implants is eligible.
The benefit is intended for persons who have lost all teeth and cannot wear removable dentures, according to medical indications and criteria.
- Dental implant surgery: 17,500 baht
- Implant set: 3,300 baht
- Follow-up care after treatment according to the criteria
A dentist must assess eligibility and suitability before treatment.
What If the Facility Does Not Have an Agreement?
If treatment is received at a facility without an agreement, the insured person may need to pay first and then request reimbursement according to the service type, rate and applicable criteria.
- Social Security Office e-Self Service
- Bangkok Social Security Area Offices
- Provincial Social Security Offices
- Social Security Office branches nationwide
The reimbursed amount follows the official rate and may differ from the actual amount paid.
What Should You Check Before Using Dental Benefits?
- Your insured status
- Whether contribution requirements are met
- Whether the facility has an agreement with the Social Security Office
- Which benefit category covers the treatment
- Whether there is a limit or additional cost
- Whether advance payment is required
- Which documents are needed for reimbursement
How Do Public and Private Facilities Differ?
Public facilities with an agreement: Fillings, scaling, extraction, wisdom tooth surgery, root planing and bone trimming for denture preparation may be provided without a visit limit, according to medical standards, necessity and benefit conditions.
Private facilities with an agreement: Fillings, scaling and extraction use a combined 900-baht annual limit. Wisdom tooth surgery has a separate benefit of 1,500–2,500 baht per tooth under the applicable criteria.
Before choosing a facility, consider the treatment type, applicable benefit and any additional cost you may need to pay.
