Having a sex is a natural thing but sometimes it might be the cause of the occurrence of disease if it not being cared about hygiene or safety
5 Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
1.HPV
- It is an STDs that is a cause of cervical cancer in women, anal and mouth cancer in men and it causes a wart on the genital both inside and outside including surrounding areas.
- It caused by Human papilloma virus that has a 2 month or higher incubation phase.
- The symptoms : it mostly showed the lesion in 2 appearances, are the symptoms of genital wart, which is a wart that has similar appearance to the cauliflower on the genital, anal and hindquarter.
- Prevention and treatment
It can be prevented with HPV vaccine and if infected, the treatment will differ depending on the disease.
2.Herpes
- It is a skin infection disease that tends to infect those who have low immunity. It takes a while for incubation to manifest the symptoms. When being treated, the strain oftenly hides in the nerves under the skin and it will appear when the body is weakened.
- It is caused by the Herpes simplex virus (HSV) that has 2 types: HSV Type 1 that is not sexually transmitted and Type 2 that is sexually transmitted.
- The symptoms of herpes, it often has red, swollen wounds, blisters on the genital, groin or mouth and itching. If the blister popped up, there would be a burning feeling. Some patients would have a fever, fatigue, headache or enlarged lymph glands under the infected skin.
- Treatment : it can be treated by antiviral medicine both by eating or applying to the skin. If the disease is mild, it can be recovered by itself without the medicine. Maintain the hygiene of the skin that has the blisters by damp cotton and saline solution. If there’s a fever, take paracetamol and have enough rest.
3.Syphilis
- It is an STDs that has life-threatening severity. Syphilis can be transmitted through to small wound on the skin
- It caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum that has incubation phase for 1-90 days
- Symptoms of syphilis can be divided to 4 phases
The 1st phase will have the small dot on the genital, lips, tongue and nipples, then it will pop up, causing the wound with lymph. In this phase, it can be recovered by itself within a few weeks but the strain continues to spread.
The 2nd phase : the strain in lymph glands will begin to spread to the blood circulation, causing fever, headache, rash, especially on the hand, feet while some patients have not found any symptoms.
The 3rd phase has no symptoms shown. It can be detected by blood test.
The 4th phase : the strain will destroy the nerve system and other organs. Cracked wound on the skin, blindness in the eyes, deaf, cerebral palsy and coronary artery aneurysm which is life-threatening.
The treatment is using high dosage of penicillin type antibiotics, according to the doctor’s appointment.
4.Chlamydia and gonorrhea
- It is one of most common STDs, which is divided to 2 types : gonorrhea and chlamydia
- This is a bacterial infection but from different strains. Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
- Symptoms
Gonorrhea : In men, it might be white or green discharge from the urinary tract, with deep pain.
Women might not have any or few symptoms shown such as abnormal white discharge from vagina.
The symptoms of Chlamydia are similar to the gonorrhea but milder.
- Treatment : Use the antibiotic under the doctor’s instruction and if it is getting early treatment, it can help in reducing the complications that risk infection more.
5.Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV)
- It is the virus that can be transmitted via secretions, while the strain enters the body and destroys the white blood cell causing low immunity disease and it is the main cause of AIDS. Those who are infected with HIV do not have to be getting AIDS but the strains remain in the body forever and it can be transmitted from mother to child.
- It is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus
- In the first phase, there’s no symptoms to be shown, but when the immunity is low, the body is weakened, causing the chance of being infected to opportunistic germs.
- There’s no treatment that eliminates the strain in nowaday but there’s antiviral that if consumed early and continuously, can help in reducing the chance of the strain to be transmitted.
- Patients can consult the doctor and check the body for evaluation of the risk of disease.
