Assessing lung function reduces the risk and increases the chances of effective treatment
The lung is a vital organ that is used for breathing to take oxygen and expel carbon dioxide from the body. Oxygen enters the bloodstream and lungs eliminates waste in the form of liquid and gas.
Lung disease or respiratory disease is a dangerous disease that seriously affects daily life. In early stages, it may not show any visible symptoms, causing it to be aware of it too late when the symptoms get severe and difficult to treat.
If lung diseases, chronic respiratory conditions, are left untreated to the extent that using respiratory support devices, it cannot return to normal function. Therefore, it is crucial to seek immediate lung function testing if any abnormal symptoms are observed.
Common lung diseases include chronic bronchitis, pulmonary inflammation or edema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, lung infections, bronchiectasis, asthma, and tuberculosis.
Who should be screened for lung disease?
-Smoking person
-Person who are working with amount of dust and smoke
-Those who are exposed and inhaled to the chemical regularly
-Person who contracted to the tuberculosis patient
If you have these symptoms, you should get tested immediately
-Difficult to breath
-Fever and cold
-Chronic cough
-Breast pain while breathing and coughing
-Low appetite
Early-stage lung function testing using Spirometry assesses the performance of the lungs and respiratory system comprehensively, involves inhaling and exhaling through a Spirometry device, measuring airflow, aid in diagnosing diseases, determining the severity of the disease, and planning appropriate treatment. It is particularly effective in diagnosing conditions such as bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, or other respiratory disorders that may not be detectable through X-rays
Preparation before lung function testing:
- Avoid heavy exercise for at least 30 minutes before the test
- Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 4 hours prior to the examination
- Abstain from smoking for 24 hours before the test
- Wear comfortable clothing that is not too tight around the chest and abdomen
- Avoid eating a heavy meal before the test
- Refrain from using bronchodilator medications
If there are conditions affecting the lungs, lung function testing may not be possible.
