What parents should know When your baby or child frequently has stomach pain

Stomach aches in children, if they occur frequently and develop to chronic disease and that might cause worry to family members but 90% of the most kids do not have stomach ache from serious disease. The reason why the kids have the stomach ache is because the nerve of the stomach and guts in children is highly sensitive to stimulants such as Gas in the stomach , eating spicy food, not eating food on regular time, etc. And the most common reasons for stomach ache are stress and anxiety.

 

Observing the symptom

          Children with stomach ache that not being caused from physical illness, can be use observation way such as :

- Intermittent symptom

- Has no fixed period of symptom, sometimes it takes a long time, sometime it occurs shortly before disappearing. 

- Children often have pain around the navel area, and the pain may shift without a clear pattern.

- Some children may have severe pain that requires them to stop activities at that moment, but most can continue playing or doing other activities while having pain.

- There are no accompanying symptoms such as Loss of appetite , weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation .

In the children that have stomach ache without physical illness, it mostly occurs in children with normal growth and development so families don’t have to be worried about physical health and pay attention to mental health.

 

What symptoms are from physical stomach ache?

          If these symptoms are detected, parents should take their children to the doctor for evaluation and detailed treatment. 

- Children have severe pain that irritates regular activity and studying. 

- Often wake up at midnight from the stomach ache

- Has accompanied symptoms such as dizziness, vomit, diarrhea, yellow skin and eyes , pale skin, etc.

 

Taking care of the kids when have non-physical stomach pain

          The stomach ache that does not originate from a physical illness is not life-threatening. So, parents should not express excessive concern, and not to repeatedly ask about the child's stomach ache as it may increase anxiety. Good care involves comforting the child and, if the pain is significant or prolonged, providing salol et menthol medications or alum milk acid-reducing medications. Additionally, it is important to observe the child's activities to identify if there are any activities causing emotional discomfort or if there is excessive pressure. Stress reduction and relaxation are also recommended.
