Elderly health checking
Aging as time passed, the body that has been used for a long time has deteriorated and weakened from prolonged usage. Causing the part of the body cannot fully be used, especially in elderly that is being affected and more visible.
So, a health check-up is very important and necessary because it is the way to monitor the serious disease that might occur to your body unconsciously, reducing the chance of getting complications, making treatment easier and faster.
Disease that commonly found in elderly
1.Diabetes
It is disease that pancreas cannot produce the insulin sufficiently and resistance to the insulin that burning the sugar in sugar, causing the unusual high in sugar level in blood.
The cartilage of the joint has deteriorated and decayed as they age. If it is left untreated, it will cause deformity at the knee and issue in moving.
By aging, it causes the kidney to work inefficiently. At first, it appears to have almost no symptoms being shown, but it appears at the last stage that the kidney is very much decayed. It can be severe and life-threatening.
4.High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
In some patients, there are symptoms of headache, confusion, and unusually easily tiredness. If the symptoms become more severe, it will cause the effect on various parts of the body like heart, vein, brain, kidney and eyes.
Certain parts of the brain are deteriorating, often causing memory loss. The patients oftenly ask the same question repeatedly, in some patients, they can’t use the brain anymore.
How often should we have a health check-up?
Eye examination
· 60-64 years old should do check-up every 2-4 years
· Every 1-2 years for 65 years old
Stool test
· 60 years old or higher should take a Stool Test once a year for screening for colorectal and rectal cancer.
Health check-up
· It should be checking in nutrition, risk of getting Osteoporosis and efficiency in doing basic daily life routines.
· Those 65 years old or higher should take a test for efficiency in brain functioning.
Women’s breast screening
· 60-69 years old should have a breast screening every years
· Those 70 years old or higher should have appropriate examinations according to the doctor's advice
Cervical cancer screening
· 60-64 years old should have screening for every 3 years
· Those 65 years old or higher should have screening up to appropriateness
Complete blood count
· Those with 70 years old or higher should have a Complete Blood Count (CBC) every years
· It should be tested for every 5 years or according to doctor’s advice
Sugar level, urinal and kidney test
· It should be tested every years
Not only elderly take a health check-up but people of any age should emphasize checking their health because some serious diseases might not have any symptoms or signs to be shown. Early awareness will make the treatment easier and more possibility of the disease becoming eradicated.
